Ear Troubles AGAIN!

Yes, behind this sweet smile is yet another ear infection! We suspected something when she couldn't quit tugging on her left ear. The funny thing is that the infection is in the right one! The doctor says it is due to her second tooth that is coming in, which creates fluid to build up. He also said that ear issues run in the family and Levon claims to have had tons of ear infections as a child. Thankfully, the new medicine is stronger, which means I have a smaller dose to force down her throat! That sounds horrible, but that is exactly what I have to do! She does NOT take it willingly. She has been extra grouchy lately, and the tooth and ear explain that.
Jocelyn is attemting to crawl all day, but still falling on her belly. She is getting so frustrated!
She waves "bye bye" all of the time now, even to strangers a couple of times. Aunt Brooke painted her toenails and she has been wearing her spring outfits and spending more time in the sun!
She weighs 20 lb. 12 ounes now and Daddy had to install her new carseat since she is almost too heavy for her infat seat. For those of you who haven't installed a carseat, at least in an older model car.. it is the most stressful thing you will do. Levon and I get so frustrated because he works so hard to get it right and I check it and it isn't tight enough so he has to do it over and over. It is something you have to get just right or you won't feel like your child is safe so it can be such a stressful thing! I saved all of my Babies R Us giftcards from my showers and when Jocelyn was born and was able to get a really nice one!
Here is Jocelyn and Jason having a moment...
Oh, I couldn't end this without saying something about the earthquake!! Jocelyn and I were home alone, Levon was out of town, and I thought it was a tornado about to take our house up! I grabbed Jocelyn and jumped in our walk-in closet. This is actually the wrong place to go in an earthquake, so next time I will evaluate the situation a little more before reacting! I'm still so thankful to God for keeping us safe.. it was really scary feeling that vulnerable, thinking that you can't protect your child- that it is out of your control. I'm glad it wasn't as serious of a situation as I thought, but I hope Levon is home with us the next time something like that happens!!

Genius Baby

I am so amazed when Jocelyn learns something new.. I have to share it even if everyone else doesn't find it as exciting!! Jocelyn has been babbling "Momma" for a long time, but I don't think that she is actually relating the word to me, it is just the sound she is making. Lately, she has been saying, "DaDa" and I also thought it was just babbling. But I notice that she has been saying it alot when Levon is around, or when we are doing something that her and Levon do together, like turning out the lights and locking the doors before bedtime. Then last night, I asked Jocelyn, "Where's Daddy?" and she looked all around the room until her eyes met Levon sleeping on the couch and she started squeeling and laughing. Now I believe she knows what she is saying when she says "DaDa" although I might not count it yet as her official first word! Another new thing she has learned is waving her arm for "bye bye". I didn't try to teach it to her and I don't even notice other people waving to her very often, but sure enough, when I say, "Let's go bye bye" or someone tells her goodbye, she starts waving her arm! Not her hand, but her entire arm!!

Levon has taught Jocelyn to turn off the light switches, something she is still working on.. it requires a lot of concentration on her part! I think I see a second tooth coming in right next to her first one on the bottom. I have yet to capture a picture of this tooth. You can see it when she smiles, but it doesn't show up in pictures yet. She lets me brush it with her own little toothbrush in the evenings!
I think Jocelyn will be crawling any day now. She scoots herself around to try to reach various items (usually the TV remote which is off limits!) and even rolls across the room and down the hallway, as you can see from the picture below!

Jocelyn loves to be flipped upside down and will look to whoever is in the room for a reaction each time she gets flipped! Maybe we will have a little acrobat! As much as this girl loves to be outside, I couldn't believe it when I tried to sit her down in the grass and she absolutely freaked out!! She acted like the blades of grass were painful or something!! I know Levon needed to mow, but it wasn't that bad! Actually, I have heard of babies being scared of grass before, so I know she will get over it. It's a little funny!

Hopefully this is one of the very last cold evenings we will have! Jocelyn is desperate to spend more time outside!!

Do you think she will be an early reader!?

Covergirl!

I submitted this ADORABLE photo (top) in a contest that Babytalk magazine and Good Morning America is having. They will pick 8 babies to go to New York this summer, and 1 will be on the cover of Babytalk in November. The picture is supposed to show the baby's personality, and I just love this one -it shows what a happy girl we have! Hopefully they won't hold her lack of hair against her!

Yes, those are Purdue shoes she is wearing!

We just got back from Jocelyn's 6 month check up. She is now 19 lbs. 10 oz and 27 and 3/4 inches long. She is still at the 95% for everything (height, weight, and head size) which means that out of 100 babies her age, only 5 are bigger than her! He said that at this rate, we may have a star basketball player since she is so tall. We can start giving her table food, which is good, since she is so desperate to eat what we are eating! We just have to make sure everything is the size of a cheerio. It seems like 6 months old is so early to let her eat everything, but her doctor said some babies are ready before others and she is ready! Poor baby had to get more shots.. she cried and cried, but forgot all about it when Levon took her over to the big fish tank in the waiting room!

Below is a video of Jocelyn playing with her cousin Gracie, who just turned 6! Grace and Jocelyn love each other! Grace always makes her smile.
