Her First Snow!

I was surprised how thrilled Jocelyn was just to walk on the iced-over snow, which is all we had on day 1 of the winter storm. She didn't even mind being bundled up like the kid from A Christmas Story.

Falling was even fun!

It was a good thing that Daddy came home for lunch so that I could get some pictures without her sliding away!

On the 2nd and 3rd days, we actually had some real snow to play in. As you can see, the frozen branches were her favorite!

The Charm of a Little Red Monster

I knew it would happen sooner or later. I'm just thankful it wasn't with the Wiggles. Jocelyn has her first full blown obsession; and it is with Elmo. I can kind of see why he sucks kids in so easily. I mean, have you heard his cute little voice? She asks for him often and it all runs together like this, "Elmoelmoelmoelmoelmo." And of course, eveytime she asks, Levon turns it on. He even turned off his playstation game when she asked once and you can guess what happens when I go out with my friends for dinner. I don't want her to watch too much tv, although she is so active that she doesn't sit very long.

So, here she is watching once during lunch. I let her finish the recording that she was watching while I got lunch together. I will give Elmo credit. He does help me get things done around the house every once and awhile.

Watching with her fancy hat on.

Already multi-tasking! She is so distracted that baby is getting fed through her eye.

Her buddy Mitchell started her obsession. He has Elmo Live, which is a pretty impressive little doll!

He put his arm around her, which she is shrugging off!

Daddy bought her an Elmo DVD and Grandpa and Grandma Sharon gave us a little tv, so Daddy set up a little area in the living room for Jocelyn to watch on the occasions that we are watching a show or I am doing an exercise video.

I promise, we aren't turning her into a couch potato! Elmo is the only thing she watches and I limit the time...but it sure is cute to see her get so excited about him.

Daddy's Girl

One morning, Jocelyn rolled over in bed and cuddled up on the big pillows that Levon lines up on his side of the bed when he gets up for work so she doesn't roll to the edge. She felt around with her eyes closed, then opened them and looked at the pillows in suprise. She lifted up one of the pillows and said, "Dadda?" like he might be hiding underneath them! Then she looked at me and whimpered, asking for her Daddy. It's little moments like these that I can't wait to tell Levon because I know it melts his heart. He loves to be needed and wanted by her.

I don't even mind when Levon calls her over with open arms and acts as "the nice parent" when she is crying hard from being disciplined by me.
Every time she does something silly or puts on a hairbow or hat, she says, "Dad!" and is ready to show him to hear his praises or make him laugh. You should see her face when she hears the door start to open. She is so excited to see him.
It's so touching for me to see how he is with her. He is ever so careful with her feelings and committed to giving her good experiences. She's only 1 so if he is already so conscious of these things, I am very confident of the quality of her childhood and life with him as her Daddy.

We love you Daddy! Thanks for giving us a life better than we could have ever imagined!

A Stinky Kitchen and a Fistful of Fur

It's freezing outside so the dogs are inside for the most part of the days and all of the nights. As you can imagine, Jocelyn is loving it! They are trained to stay in the kitchen, although Reagan will inch her way out onto the carpet at times. She is a very headstrong dog. She is also very tolerant of all of Jocelyn's pats, hugs, and tugs. Jocelyn gives her baby and herself rides on Reagan's back and was even caught trying to stand on her a couple of times. Reo, on the other hand is the biggest wuss of a dog that I've ever seen. He jumps every time Jocelyn gets near him, afraid of what she'll do, although I can't say that I blame him. You should see him run if I try to sweep around him or change the trash bag. Serious wuss. Speaking of sweeping, I have to sweep the kitchen 3-4 times a day with them in it because Reo rolls on the ground at every potty break, bringing half the yard back in with him. And Reagan looses buckets of thick white hair with every pat from Jocelyn. But, hey, they are warm and cozy with their family so that is all that matters, right? Did I mention our kitchen smells just lovely?

A sweet kiss for Reagan captured!

She has a serious love for this dog.

I love how the flash made both their eyes go squinty!

I'm It!

I've been tagged to play along with this Meme! Here are the rules:
1. go to your documents/pictures
2. go to your 6th file.
3. go to your 6th picture.
4. blog about it.
5. tag 6 people to do the same.
6. smile

Levon and I took Jocelyn to my uncle's river camp in July for a fish fry. I love freshly caught fried fish...mmmmmm. My sister and her kids and my mom also came. Brooke's kids had fun swinging on the rope swing and riding around in the Gator. It was a good time. In the picture, Jocelyn is trying on Uncle Fred's glasses. I remember that I dressed Jocelyn in an outfit that no one thought was very cute, but I thought it went well with the usual theme of the rivercamp parties... Jimmy Buffet. Her shorts were covered in orange and green palm trees and I believe the word that Levon used to describe them was "hideous." Too bad they don't show in the picture!

I don't follow 6 blogs of people who actually know me so I'll tag the few I do know.
1. Katie
2. Lauren
3. Brooke
I think Brooke has already played along with this Meme in the past though!

Oh, and Erin, you're not dragging me into it. I love playing these games, along with forwards that require answers, and the games at baby and wedding showers. I don't see what people are always complaining about! I find them fun!

A New Year

If you are outside looking in at our family, you would probably think that at the top of our priorities of 2009 is to get this sleeping child pictured below out of our bed and into her own! But it is not. In fact, lately I've been feeling very liberated about raising my child in a way that is different than what the rest of our society considers normal or best. I mean, just think of all the times that following the less traveled path is the wiser choice. What comes to mind most often is Jesus telling us to make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because few rather than many are actually saved. Now, I'm not trying to compare the significance of salvation to where my child sleeps, but I'm keeping in mind that blending in with the way the world practices is not necessarily the best idea. So for now, I will sleep nose to nose with this sleeping beauty with her arm around my neck and squeezing a tight fistful of my hair so that I can't escape, because that is what feels best for us. Although, I'm sure sometime in 2009 (probably the later part) she will start sleeping on her own :)

Last year, my New Year's resolution was to keep the house a little more tidy. Honestly, I don't think I made any better of a housewife in 2008 than I did the year before when I worked full time. Poor Levon. He had much higher standards before I got ahold of him. He used to be so organized just like his mom, but now after being badly influenced by me for 9 years, he is not quite the same. He leaves piles of clothes on the floor, shoes stacked up by the door, and even thanked me for vacuuming a couple of times because he mistaked lines in the carpet from the rocking chair for vacuum tracks! No, really our house isn't that bad. I'm just not as organized and as much of a clean freak as some. So, I made this year's resolution a little more manageable and am trying to keep our bedroom dresser cleared off. As Levon put it, it is a shame for something that nice and expensive to be covered in makeup and junk, and he is right :)

As for my more serious resolutions, I have already made a good start digging deeper into the Bible thanks to a great study guide from my sister. It is a good one for me because it deals with breaking free from bondage and the Lord knows I need help in that area, especially how much I worry about Jocelyn. I don't know any Christian who doesn't need to grow closer to God, so this is something I will be working toward. Also, this year I strive to become more of the Christian wife and mother God intended me to be. I love learning about my God-given role, but fail at it every day. Thankfully, I was given a patient husband!

Last, but not least, I resolve to respond to people with confidence and not defensiveness. If, in fact, I believe what I am doing is best for my family, then this should be no problem. I could go on and on about ways I want to improve myself and things that I could do better, but these are the things I'm focused on first and foremost.

Levon seems to be confident that I will able to stay home with Jocelyn for at least 2009. We are taking it one year at a time it seems since last year at this time he could promise me 2008. I don't know what better way I could start off this year than hearing that news. I love my life just as it is...it is way better than I ever could have imagined it. I'm so glad that God is in control!

The Best Kinds of Toys...

are the ones like this one...built by my Grandpa for my sister and I when we were little. And just like Jocelyn, we spent more time sitting in the cradle ourselves than we did putting our baby dolls to bed in it.
